The following is an excerpt from a samvaad (dialogue) session with Acharya Prashant.

Question (Q): Sir, does character play any role in the awakening of inner potential?

Acharya Prashant (AP): Is character about sticking to certain norms of behavior? Is character about following the patterns of society or religion? Then character is just dead conditioning. Your reaction, behavior, and life will be predictable, like a puppet show.

Rather, a character is a throbbing vital expression of great intelligence. It is the manifestation of the life within. It is not a routine, and it cannot be predetermined. Character is thought and action arising spontaneously and straight out of understanding.

When you act fearlessly in awareness, that is real character.

Character does not awaken intelligence. Instead, character is the dance of intelligence. It does not conform to expectations, and it does not arise from the flow of the past. Hence, you cannot label it and you also cannot judge or measure it.

You can only live it.
